چکیده

We give the first explicit construction of deterministic extractors for affine sources over F2, with entropy k ≥ log n for some large enough constant C, where n is the length of the source. Previously the best known results are by Bourgain [Bou07], Yehudayoff [Yeh11] and Li [Li11b], which require the affine source to have entropy at least Ω(n/ √ log log n). Our extractor outputs one bit with error n. Our construction is obtained by reducing an affine source to a non-oblivious bit-fixing source, and then applying a deterministic extractor for such sources in the recent breakthrough result of two-source extractors by Chattopadhyay and Zuckerman [CZ15]. To reduce an affine source to a non-oblivious bit-fixing source, we adapt the alternating extraction based approach in previous work on independent source extractors [Li13a] to the affine setting. Deterministic Extraction from Weak Random Sources - Preamble

Preface Roughly speaking, a deterministic extractor is a function that 'extracts' almost perfect random bits from a 'weak random source'-a distribution that contains some entropy but is far from being truly random. In this book we explicitly construct deterministic extractors and related objects for various types of sources. A basic theme in this book is a methodology of recycling randomness th...

New Extractors for Interleaved Sources

We study how to extract randomness from a C-interleaved source, that is, a source comprised of C independent sources whose bits or symbols are interleaved. We describe a simple approach for constructing such extractors that yields: • For some δ > 0, c > 0, explicit extractors for 2-interleaved sources on {0, 1} when one source has min-entropy at least (1 − δ)n and the other has min-entropy at l...

Key Derivation From Noisy Sources With More Errors Than Entropy

Fuzzy extractors (Dodis et al., Eurocrypt 2004) convert repeated noisy readings of a high-entropy secret into the same uniformly distributed key. To eliminate noise, they require an initial enrollment phase that takes the first noisy reading of the secret and produces a nonsecret helper string to be used in subsequent readings. This helper string reduces the entropy of the original secret—in th...

Quantum-Proof Extractors: Optimal up to Constant Factors

We give the first construction of a family of quantum-proof extractors that has optimal seed length dependence O(log(n/ǫ)) on the input length n and error ǫ. Our extractors support any min-entropy k = Ω(log n+ log(1/ǫ)) and extract m = (1− α)k bits that are ǫ-close to uniform, for any desired constant α > 0. Previous constructions had a quadratically worse seed length or were restricted to very...

Deterministic Extractors for Additive Sources

We propose a new model of a weakly random source that admits randomness extraction. Our model of additive sources includes such natural sources as uniform distributions on arithmetic progressions (APs), generalized arithmetic progressions (GAPs), and Bohr sets, each of which generalizes affine sources. We give an explicit extractor for additive sources with linear minentropy over both Zp and Z ...
